Development of Extra-Early Provitamin A Quality Protein Maize Inbreds with Resistance/Tolerance to Striga hermonthica and Soil Nitrogen Stress

چکیده
A hemiparasitic plant, Striga hermonthica (Del.) Benth and soil nitrogen stress are the key constraints to maize (Zea mays L.) productivity in sub-Saharan Africa, where commonly cultivated is normal endosperm type that deficient provitamin A, tryptophan lysine (PVATL). Seventy-six extra-early inbreds with tryptophan, qualities (TZEEIORQ) were developed address these constraints, four checks assessed under Striga, low high conditions at three locations Nigeria. The further genotyped two beta-carotene hydroxylase 1 (crtRB1) markers, their seeds quantified for content. Significant (P < 0.01) genetic variations observed grain yield other agronomic attributes of varying environmental conditions. Levels PVATL ranged from 2.21–10.95 µg g−1, 0.04–0.08%, 0.19–0.39%, respectively. Beta-carotene marker, crtRB1-3′TE, was polymorphic grouped into two. marker effective identifying moderate Inbreds TZEEIORQ 5, 52, 55 exhibited resistance tolerance levels could be invaluable sources favorable alleles breeding nutritionally improved varieties resistance/tolerance stress.

متن کاملEffects of soil pasteurisation and soil N status on severity of Striga hermonthica (Del.) Benth. in maize
The nature of interrelationships between soil pasteurisation, and increased soil N content, on the severity of Striga hermonthica infection in maize was studied in pot experiments in the screen-house. An initial experiment revealed that there was no significant difference in amount of S. hermonthica infection in maize grown in potted soil collected from Bida (98050N, 68010E) and Ibadan (78170N,...

Striga hermonthica remains one of the greatest biological threats to cereal production in the savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa. Control efforts at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nigeria, focus on developing integrated S. hermonthica management (ISM) options such as legume-cereal rotation, use of host–plant resistance, soil-based biological control exploiting enhancem...
متن کاملa comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection
supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...
15 صفحه اولidentification of new maize inbred lines with resistance to striga hermonthica (del.) benth.
striga hermonthica is a noxious, obligate hemi-parasite of cereal grasses that causes severe grain yield loss in susceptible maize cultivars in africa. the development of host plant resistance is one of the most practical stiga control strategies. in this study experiments on 36 maize inbred lines were conducted in pots and in field during the two rainy seasons of 2009 at kibos and alupe statio...
